About ME

Tragic events can create beauty. I was thirteen and home alone when my childhood home caught on fire. There was the crackling orange glow, the smell of smoke, dogs barking, rush of sirens and curious neighbors. This one March evening changed the course of my life. My family and I moved into our camping trailer for the next ten months while we rebuilt our home alongside engineers, architects, builders, designers, sheet rockers, painters, floor installers and even hazmat teams. During this process, I learned how space can truly affect someone’s sense of peace. I also learned that tiny living is not for me. Over those ten months I was given the opportunity to help design my house. I learned about colors, textures, lighting and much more. Meeting with our interior designer showed me a career path I had never thought about but seemed to love. My favorite experience was designing my brother’s and my bathroom. I was given free reign and an extensive budget, compared to the rest of the rooms in the house, to choose it all: the flooring, cabinets, tile, hardware, back splash linens etc. The thrill of seeing the process all come together helped in my recover of this stressful time and I discovered that I truly loved helping in the design of our unexpected remodel. The most important part of the process to me was getting to reclaim a space that scared me and make it feel like my home again. If I had not been lucky enough to be a part of that process, I know I would not feel as comfortable and in love with the space I call my home. This remarkable experience showed me my love for interior design.
As a designer I use timeless colors, interesting textures, and creative uses of space to make a space feel like a home as well as meet the needs of its occupants. I know from my experience of taking a scary place and making it feel safe and comfortable again that the feelings a space evokes is incredibly important. As a designer I want to create spaces that make people feel comfortable, happy, and safe. Not only do spaces create emotion they also need to fulfill their practical use and inspire the occupant in whatever they are endeavoring to accomplish.
My love for beautiful and happy space comes from my unique experience of designing my family’s home after a house fire. I hope to pursue residential design so that I can help my clients create amazing spaces that fulfill the unique needs of the family and makes their everyday lives better.
